Have Acquired or Sold Businesses.
Can you really build generational wealth, scale your company rapidly via acquisitions and the holy grail - get out of the day-to-day of business and become an owner/investor? These are the big topics we will explore together.
The stories we share aim to inspire and also help you avoid the pitfalls of others who are further ahead in their journey.
About your host: Coran Woodmass
In May 2023, my wife and I acquired 8760 Solar, a Colorado-based Commercial Solar Installer whose target market is Agricultural and rural businesses.
My wife and I self funded the acquisition with no bank debt or other investors. I’ll be sharing the journey plus speaking with other acquisition entrepreneurs to give you the TRUTH behind the hype of acquiring businesses.
My background aka why listen to me?
I grew up in a strictly religious household and didn’t finish high school. I started my career in sales (pretty much the only job I could get) and have since built some successful businesses, failed more times than I can count, became an investor and acquired businesses along the way.
As a life-long self-learner I can point to two pivotal moments.
The first was playing the board game “Cashflow” by Robert Kiyosaki and the second reading/listening to The 4-Hour Work Week on my commute to and from work.
The combination set off a chain of events that started both my investing and travel paths.
In 2013 my wife and I left Australia to travel and try a gap-year. We liked it so much that I started to look for ways to make money while having the freedom to travel.
This quest led me to slowly acquire a portfolio of content websites and build two ecommerce brands from scratch. One Google update halved my income overnight but a few months later I sold my first ecommerce business.
The exit was small however, buying websites and this sale gave me a taste of deal making. Through connections I’d made I started out as a business broker.
In 2016 I founded The FBA Broker which was the first sell-side brokerage to focus on physical product brands with an Amazon sales channel.
As the market grew billions of dollars flooded into the market to buy these businesses. I quickly went from my first sale being $120,000 to the largest closed deal value of $55,000,000.
I wanted to test my deal making skills outside of ecommerce and Amazon. So I started an M&A advisory practice and started consulting with companies looking to scale rapidly via acquisition.
My most successful clients after doing a 3-day workshop with me decided to pass on offers to buy their company for up to $200,000,000! Instead they chose to keep the company and focus on growth via acquisition.
After working with this client I decided to start my own journey acquiring a portfolio of businesses.
Fast forward to today I’m launching Truth About Acquisitions as a way to share the journey but also help others looking to acquire their first business or grow their company rapidly via acquisition.
I hope you find this helpful in your journey and I look forward to hearing about your success!
Cheers,
Coran Woodmass
